My husband is a movie fanatic! He's got a huge collection from VHS to DVD. His taste in movies is not my taste. Last night he was watching a war movie from the 60's with Steve McQueen, Fess Parker, and Bobby Darin. I'd prefer to be watching something like You've Got Mail or Sabrina. Actually, I'd prefer even the older versions of either of these movies. Nora Ephron's You've Got Mail (1998), with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan was a remake of a movie called Shop Around the Corner (1940) with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. The Sabrina movie originally starred Humphry Bogart, Audry Hepburn and William Holden in 1954, but I really loved the newer version (1995) with Julia Ormond, Greg Kinnear, and Harrison Ford. I thought Julia Ormond was just beautiful and she was dressed in that gorgeous party gown.
I know that I am in the minority, loving old movies, but I just want to be entertained when I spend two hours watching a movie! How about you? What is your favorite?

I love old movies and usually much prefer the original. I love new movies too, but there's just something about a movie with Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart....
Linda, I think it is the generation you belong to, I love the old movies also. Any old Jimmy Stewart movies are great and The old musicals, Oklahoma, The Music Man are two of my favorites, also Paint Your Wagon.
Marlenem I think you are right! It is our generational preferences. I also love Oklahoma and Paint Your Wagon!
Love old movies, especially anything with Audrey Hepburn, she's so sophisticated, I want to be just like her when I grow up!!
Musicals - yay! Thanks mum, I know all the words and burst into song at the drop of a hat or an Easter Bonnet even :-)
Hey - the votes are in - old movies rock ;-) I love really old movies - I even have a copy of The Sheik - the silent version! I also have a silent Tarzan with (I think) Buster Crabbe (sp) (suppose I could go dig it out, couldn't I?! lol)
I love some of the same movies you enjoy, especially both versions of "Sabrina." Another (old) favorite is "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Thanks for the reminder about these wonderful films.
Honestly, I haven't watched that many old movies. I always think I'd like to, but never get around to it.
