Back to School

Haven't posted lately, except for my automatic WW posts;  I have been ill, including a stay in the ER on Wednesday.  Anyway, I am getting better, and decided to make a short post today in between short stints on the couch.

Most school children are preparing to go back to school, sometime between August 12th and September right after Labor Day, depending on where you live.  I've been hosting a "Back-to-School" sale in my shop and have a few items that may be on your list, if you are the one designated to do the shopping for the kiddos. All the items shown today can be found in my PruittCreations shop.  And don't forget to use the coupon code listed in the shop announcement for a 15% discount on anything in my Back-to-School section!  You can use every penny you can save, when it comes to school supplies!

Don't forget the hair accessories!  What little girl doesn't want to look her best the first day?

Vacation . . . Pause

Yes, I am still on vacation from this blog site!  I am currently working on book illustrations and documenting the process in my other blog, Abigail's Attic -- find it here!  But, I have a new line of items in my PruittCreations Etsy shop and I was excited to share them with you--just in time for school to start!

I made quite a few of these for a summer craft show and now have listed them for Back-to-School! I also bought this cute wrought iron stand from another vendor at the show.  Isn't she adorable!!  I used her to display my new bags!

Misty Morning Fog

I don't know if it is because it is early September and school is starting  . . .  or if I miss my hometown after visiting it on vacation . . . or if it is just my wishing for cooler weather,  but I have been thinking about fog.  Yes, FOG! I remember one of the only poems I memorized from my high school years:

THE fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

My home town was always filled with early morning fog in the fall and winter.  I walked to school in the fog, except when it was really bad.  On those days school didn't start for two or three hours later, waiting for it to move on.  Anyway, I remember sitting in the fog in the quad at my high school waiting for school to start, after my dad dropped me off early on his way to work.  Those were quiet solitary days that I will remember always.  I guess, all this reminiscing has inspired me to post these Friday Finds from Etsy shops who feature items of a misty or foggy nature. Please take time to visit these lovely shops. (Sorry, my photograph does not do the misty quality of the painting justice.) I share it for here for the first time.  It hangs the my entry way of my home.  I painted it in 1982, so might say that it is 'Vintage' :)  Enjoy!

My Kindergarten Year

It's that time again, for (Etsy) Friday Finds, but I will save it for Saturday's post, since I need to do a blog carnival entry for my Etsybloggers team--Etsybloggers Rock! They have asked us to write about either Labor Day traditions or a kindergarten memory--of ours or of our children. I have so many children, that I didn't want to slight any one of them, so I chose to write my own memory--that's more fun anyway!


My kindergarten years were a Looooooooonnnnnnnnggggg time ago!!!! But I do have a few memories of that year. Things were different then! My mom walked me to school at first, she didn't drive back then. After that I walked the approximately three blocks down and two blocks over to home by myself. Actually, not entirely alone, with another classmate-Keith was is name. His house was a block short of mine. In those days, it was a lot safer for children to walk unattended, although, mom (or Keith's mother) would meet us half way sometimes.

But my most vivid memory of kindergarten was the monkey bars! I loved them. I was a willowy little kid that loved to run and jump and be active. I would run for the monkey bars at recess and climb to the top. There was a parallel bar attached, that I would throw one leg over then swing around and around to the filling of my little heart's desire. Unbeknown to me, my little panties were fully exposed to the surrounding juvenile world as my skirt flew with glee! I guess it bothered my teacher, because she called my mom and asked her to dress me in pants from now on! Anyway, after that, I remember swinging on the bar wearing a pare of pants UNDER my skirt! I really don't know if that was my mom's way of making a statement to the teacher, or if she was so old fashioned that she wasn't ready to put me in pants totally. (Sorry, I do not have a picture to post of when I was little, I must remember to ask my mom to send me some from the family album!)

Back to School

When I was a child, school starting right after Labor Day was the norm. Summer was ending, although it was still hot outside. I remember sitting in my new classroom, at my new desk, dressed in new duds right down to the shoes, and sweltering in the heat because the rooms were not air conditioned. I lived in a hot climate where the temps outside could be still in the high nineties. But, none-the-less, excited about being back in school. I liked school even though I was extremely shy about meeting new kids.

Now, my grand kids have gone back to school, last week; and each one is sharing their exciting experiences of newness: new school, new friends, new rooms and new teachers! I've enjoyed their stories, and seeing them blossom in the new year! Go kids! Go teachers! Learn! Learn! Learn!
